Arrange Marriage Opinion

Original Text: Arrange Marriage Opinion

What is Arrange Marriage and why is it important in India? An arrange marriage is when parents, or eldest male or female of the family, chooses a partner for his or her youngest child. It is important to find a suitor for the child because the parents are looking for a good life for his daughter as well as their own. Thought in our culture it differs because we choose whom we marry and not the parents even if they were to object to it. An arrange marriage is very controversial since many people have different opinion on it. In my opinion an arrange marriage is not that bad but at the same time I would not consider doing it.
To me I believe that a person should be able to marry whomever they desire to be their partner and that is going to be with whom they are going to spend their rest of their lives with. That whomever they pick is because they love them. Love is a major factor in deciding if that is the right person. Though arrange marriage is not bad because you know that the parent is only looking for the best person to marry his or her child. Either one is good but it all depends upon the person.
In Saheri’s Choice we see a story of a girl life and how she has a different view on arranged marriage. She does not wish to marry a man she does not because she is already in love but she has no say but at the end she divorces her husband because she keep going to her parents house. She says that she wants to live with her parent and work and be independent. It doesn’t appear that all arrange marriage works, well mostly they do because it has become a costume and everybody know but only some speak out but we don’t know because it is punishable if a woman doesn’t want to be the husband that’s been arranged and runs off with someone else. The positive outcome of a marriage between an arranged marriage is that they learn to love one another and there is an alliance between the families they get recognize and have power for example property. The negative effect is that it’s hard to get a divorce if there is no valid reason they have to get and that they don’t love each other.
If arranged marriage where to be brought to the United Sates I don’t think it would work. An arranged marriage would not work because many believe in love. That they have the right to choose who they will marry. It would create a very controversial topic and at the end it would not work. In my culture arrange marriage does not exist. We decide who we marry but after we spent a long period being with that person. We don’t decide on the spot who we marry we take our time and see if that the person who we are going to spend the rest of our lives with.
To me I don’t believe that my culture is ethnocentrism, I do believe that it is important but so is every other culture because we see the difference that one culture has and how they have survived. Every culture is important since they all have their own unique qualities and ritual. They are all important because they all contribute to other cultures. For instance, El Dia de Los Muertos comes from Mexico but it has influence the United States and we celebrate it here as well. I believe that all cultures are equally important because we learn from each and every one of them.

Revised Text: Arranged Marriage Opinion

What is Arranged Marriage and why is it important in India? An arranged marriage is when the parents, or the eldest male or female of a family, chooses a partner for his or her youngest child. It is important to find a suitor for the child because the parents are looking for a good life for his daughter as well as themselves.

Thinking in our culture is different because we choose whom we will marry, not the parents even though they may object to it. An arranged marriage is very controversial since many people have different opinions on it. In my opinion an arranged marriage is not that bad, but at the same time I would not consider doing it.

I believe that a person should be able to marry whomever they desire for their partner and that will be the partner they will to spend the rest of their life with. They pick the person because they love them. Love is a major factor in deciding who is the right person but arranged marriages are not bad, because you know that the parent is only looking for the best person to marry his or her child. Either one is good, it all depends upon the person.

In Saheri’s Choice we see the story of a girl's life and how she has a different view on arranged marriages. She does not wish to marry a man because she is already in love, but she has no say. In the end, she divorces her husband because she keeps going to her parents house. She says that she wants to live with her parents and work and be independent. It doesn’t appear that all arranged marriages work. Well mostly they do, because it has become a custom. Only some speak out because it is punishable when a woman doesn’t marry the husband that’s been arranged for her and runs off with someone else.

The positive outcome of an arranged marriage is that they learn to love one another and there is an alliance between the families. They get recognition and have power, for example over property. A negative effect is that it’s hard to get a divorce if there is no valid reason, even though they don’t love each other.

If arranged marriages where to be brought to the United Sates, I don’t think they would work. An arranged marriage would not work because too many believe in love and that they have the right to choose who they will marry. It would create a very controversial problem and in the end it would not work. In my culture, arranged marriages do not exist. We decide who we will marry, but only after we spend a long period with that person. We don’t decide on the spot who we will marry, we take our time to see if that is the person we want to spend the rest of our life with.

I don’t believe that my culture is ethnocentric. I do believe that it is important, but so is every other culture, because we see the differences between cultures and how they have survived. Every culture is important because they all have their own unique qualities and rituals. They are all important because they all contribute to other cultures.
