This paper describes primarily findings of research about Saudi visual design industry. The focus of the paper is the absence of Saudi design education programs in the Saudi university and suggested solutions for Saudi students who want to study visual design.
Saudi education system has no design or art education in high schools. There are also no departments, colleges and faculties in Saudi universities to teach male students visual design programs. There are only one college for design and a department for graphic design for teaching female students. The preliminary outcomes of the research indicate significant absence of design programs in Saudi universities. Accordingly Saudi students who want to study any program in the design field need to study abroad or overseas. One objective of the main research was to suggest ways to improve Saudi visual design industry. Offering a suitable design program for Saudi students is a way to improve the quality of the Saudi design industry. This paper used questionnaire survey to collect data from participants. The paper consists of background, data collected from one hundred and seven (107) specialists in the Saudi visual design industry and conclusion. Content analysis is used to analyse the data in this paper. The analysis in the paper suggests that Australian universities can encourage Saudi students who want to study design to study in Australia. Australian universities can organize academic programs and training programs for Saudi students to graduate with suitable degrees in the design field.
