The blame of Mathilde Loisel financial downfall could be caused by two things, as I see it. The first and foremost one that I see is the classical truth vs. dishonesty. If only had Mathilde loisel told of the event and asked Madame Forrestier where or how to replace it, she then would have known from the beginning that it was so much less. She would have then only had slight despair compared to the cost of a real diamond. In this explanation the husband and Loisel are both to blame. Another way this also could have been explained is the undecided fold of events. If you always want more and are willing to risk everything to have it; it can bite back. She dreamed nothing more but to live the life of a rich and sought after women.
