How We Met

Eighteen years ago, Frank Hernandez and Lissette Cancel met on April 29, 1992. They got married on October 30th of that year.

It went a little bit like this....

We went to school together in the 3rd grade in 1976 at C.S. 70 in New York City. He had a picture of me (aww so sweet.) I guess we were in puppy love back then (lol.)

Unfortunately, his Family took Frank out of school for a little bit because he had a very bad health condition. But God is so big that He gave Frank a second chance to live, and I thank god for that.

We never saw each other again while we were growing up, not even one time. He used to live right next to my sister Nada, who is crazy. My family decided to move to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

One day I was at a good friend's house and Frank passed by with his friend and asked if I was from N.Y., his friend told him yes. But let me tell you, I didn't like Frank Before that day. I saw him one time. At the end of April 1992 there was a concert of the Gran Combo and he was there sitting with us and I was mad because I didn't like him.

I went to get a soda with my good friend and she told me that he knew me and her. "Ja ja ja ja," that's what I said. "Yes, he knows you from the 3rd grade in NY."

I'm like, "What ever. I sure don't remember him." Then we went back up and he sat right next to me. I'm like, "Oh lord." He started saying that we went to school together in the Bronx and that the teacher's name was Miss Landro. That I was in a play and I was miss Mexico and that my best friend's name was Sherry.

When he said all that, my jaw was on the floor. I couldn't believe it! Everything he said was true.

His Family moved to PR the same year we did and to Rio Grande also. Wow!

I asked him, "How can you remember me? I really don't remember you at all." That's when he told me about the picture and that my face hadn't changed. He then used to pass by my house in his Datsun 210. One time he came by wearing a suit to invite me to go dancing with him, but I said no.

One day I decided to give him a chance and we started talking. From that time on, we have been together for 18 years. It hasn't been easy. We have had our ups and downs, but that's part of a marriage. We have both fought for our health right next to each other, never letting go in the good or the bad. Poor or rich, we share a lot of love and our drinking cup every where we go (and that is not because we are cheap (lmao.)

We go everywhere together. I get up at 4:20 every morning to make his breakfast and prepare his lunch, but I do it with all my heart. He works hard while and I stay home, so hey, why not? I could always go back to bed.....wink. He's been a great father to my son. We don't eat dinner if the other one is not home, we wait for each other to eat.

My sister says I'm crazy, but that's how we are. I thank God every day for my husband, that I love very much. And I know He feel the same cause he has shown it to me. I love you Baby.....
