The youngest of the girls was sixteen going on seventeen. Her name was Linda Cardinal. The other three girls were about the same age as her.
Down forth avenue the old LAVOIE’S RENT A BICYCLE sign was still hanging. Its been there ever sense 1960.The rust was eating its way at it, but the old man Lavoie still fixes a bike or two every once and a while. It used to be a real gold mine back in the sixties and seventies, but the style changes through the years, and so do bikes. Now it was trail bikes that were “in” so things began to slow down for Lavoie. Nobody wanted ten speeds any more; besides, there were other bicycle stores popping up here and there with newer equipment.
The SIGMA mine, just a mile out of town, could still be heard blowing its whistle at four pm which meant that a day’s work had just ended and a new shift was about to begin.
Now that there was an industrial park with a prefabricated housing factory Unit, plywood factory, etc, many new faces could be seen in town. There was a new part being built at the western edge of town. Except for some small modifications, every new building seems to be identical to the other.
