Why Mom?

Original Text: Why Mom?

As we grow older, we find someone to look up to. Virtually everyone has someone that they admire. Most of my friends admire movie stars or superstar athletes. Have you ever thought of about who you admire? Well, I certainly have! The person I admire the most is neither world famous nor a multimillionaire. I save my admiration for a special woman, my mother. I admire my mother because of her morals, some of the obstacles she has overcome, and for all she has done for me in my life.
As an only child in my family, I always considered myself to be “Mommies little girl.” It always made me sad to see so many of my friends and neighbors without a mother or mother-like figure around. This helped me appreciate how my mother always takes care of me. In each and every aspect of my life, my mom continuously pushes me to excel in everything I do. Whenever I feel like giving up, or have a question or a concern, I know I can always call on her for advice. I have also learned that sometimes you have to put other’s needs ahead of your own, but not to the point they will begin to take advantage of you. Her strength seems to be unbreakable during hard times, and is extremely determined to accomplish anything she sets her mind to. I hold great esteem for how she stands up for what she believes in, and will never back down. I have always admired her open mind, compassion, and sense of understanding. She is a very independent woman, has a great sense of humor, and always knows how to put a smile on my face.
My mom is a person who has taught me how to live life without feeling helpless and with pride. I have learned from her that problems and sufferings are part of life and if they were not part of our life then we would not know the real meaning of happiness. Whenever I feel sad, upset or happy, I always call mom. I feel so blessed to have such an amazing mom and I thank God every day for her.
A quality that I admire most in her is her selfless devotion to me. Her own interests are of little importance to her where mine are involved. The she always cooks for me when I am hungry. She will forego a good night's sleep without a murmur, taking care of me when I am sick. In her scheme of things she always puts my interests first. In the knowledge of fashion she seems to excel over us. She takes secret delight in seeing us fashionably dressed.
Over time, there have been several people who have influenced various aspects of my life, based on their personal characteristics, accomplishments, and value, but my mother has made the biggest impact in my life. As you can see my mother means the world to me. I do not know what I would do without her! I love her so much and would not be who I am today without her. She has taught me so much and has helped me grow into a good Christian young woman.
