Word choice

by Kieran

Word choice

What is the structure of answering a word choice question and how do you go about doing this? thanks

Editor:

My process usually begins with gaining an understanding of the intended meaning. Sometimes a definition from the questioner (with prompts as necessary) will easily lead to an appropriate word from your vocabulary or dictionary, which can be tested in the given context.

In evaluating the context, it's important to consider the intended audience (i.e.; potential employer, personal friend, thesis committee, etc.) as well as the speaker (or writer's) personal "voice". Should the speaker sound like a high school student or an international banker?
