Dear Sir/ Madam,

I write today regarding the Research Assistant position available. I truly believe that my theoretical and practical knowledge on the research field and my clinical experience in different environments make me well qualified for such a great position.

I am presently working with Dr Xxxxxxx Xxxxx, a senior Lecturer at the Middlesex University. I am assisting Dr Xxxxxxx in a piece of research on infrahumanization and mental illness. I am responsible for transcribing, analysing, compiling data and preparing records and reports. Working on this study I have the opportunity to acquiring extra experience in data management, and qualitative analysis, such as The Thematic Network Analysis.

As a post graduate student at the Middlesex University, I designed and conducted a cross-cultural study on children’s self concept and concept of family. It was a qualitative piece of research based on the Kinetic Family Drawings test. Working on this project I had the opportunity to broaden my knowledge on qualitative studies from its genesis to its completion. Additionally, through this experience I developed an understanding of the methodological and practical compromises inherent in conducting research with vulnerable population, such as children. At the present I am working on a manuscript describing this study’s results to submit for publication.

During my undergraduate degree at the Universidade Paulista in Brazil, I designed and conducted a study on the public’s knowledge about rehabilitation programs for mentally ill people. By using questionnaires with both, multiple choice and open ended questions, it was possible to gather a wide range of information from a large number of individuals. Through this study I had the opportunity to conduct analyses and write computer programs to convert raw data into an analyzable form, as well as create tables and figures to present the results of these findings in a comprehensive format, what gave me a great experience on quantitative and qualitative research. I presented the findings from this research at the Universidade Paulista in 2008, being awarded with a Distinction classification.
Additionally, as an undergraduate student I had the opportunity to work as a psychologist internship, interacting with a wide range of clinical patients, including children, adolescents, elderly and mentally ill people. During the weekly meeting with my supervisor and other students I had the opportunity to expand my understanding and knowledge on the clinical setting.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I have enclosed my resume and I hope you will consider me for an interview. If I can provide any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me on xxxxxxxxxxx.

Sincerely,

Xxxxx Xxxxxxx
