In 1945 it was up to America and the Soviet to decide what would happen to the Korean peninsula . Two young aides from the State Department divided the Korean peninsula in half and made its separation in the thirty-eighth parallel. In the north part of Korea the Russians occupied and in the south the United States. Nearly 10,000 North and South Korean soldiers were killed before the war had began. North Korea was and still remains a communist country while the South is democratic.
The Korean War started in June 25, 1950 and ended on July 27, 1953. It all started when 75,000 soldiers from North Korea made their way to South Korea. The Invasion was the first military actions from the Cold War. By July, America had already been in the war on behalf of South Korea. The U.S. was saying that it was a war of an international force against communism itself. Everyone thought that it wasn't just a war on border issues, but more like a first step into converting countries into Communist. “If we let Korea down,” President Harry Truman said, “the Soviets will keep right on going and swallow up one place after another.”(1)
The Whole point of the war was to get communists out of South Korea and all allies suffered. North Korea was well trained and well disciplined
